This is my friend Daniel and his new baby, Mary Jane. She is the sweetest puppy I have ever known and he loves her more than I think he would love any other bitch. This blog is not about me, but about Daniel and his trials and tribulations as a "mere" dishwasher in a fairly busy diner. We share some of these stories, since we work together, and I get to observe some of his day to day frustrations. Some of them I share, as well.
We're not sure if it's a southern thing, or if it's a restaurant thing, or what, but where we work there is pretty much no reward for hard work and loyalty. My approach is different...I just continue to work and then bitch about it later. Daniel does the work too, but he bitches right then and to whoever will listen. I used to get worried about the things he would say to managers, but once I realized that they're really not going to do anything about his rebellion, I actually encourage it now. It makes the humdrum boring day go by a little faster. Like the time he threatened to lock the manager outside. Or the time one of our least favorite servers dropped a glass of icy water down her own back by accident and he dropped what he was doing long enough to point at her and yell, "Ha ha ha ha!"
You would think that he would get written up or something for his bad behavior, but it doesn't happen. I've learned that's because the managers really don't care whose feelings he hurts or what he says because he does his job and does it really well. He's pretty much untouchable. I've never quite seen anything like it, and as the blog takes its shape, everyone else will see it too. Happy reading!
